My Fave Five!

Ladies, ladies, ladies! I have missed you. ImagiNess has been engaged in a revamping and we attended our first public exhibition last week (The Maryland State Education Association's Annual Convention in Ocean City, MD)! Alot of work and alot of fun. Meeting so many fabulous women in a short period was a blast and so inspiring. You are wonderful, powerful, strong, and so funny. Thank you for sharing your lives with me. Let me tell you how profound it was for me to see so many of you who were in your 40's, 50's and beyond! You blew my 'fro back with your youthful, effervescent presence!

My niece and I are putting together family photos for albums we're producing for Christmas so I have been seeing pictures of myself from years before and strangely, I look younger now. Why, I wondered, especially since I was "smaller" then, flatter tummy, no back fat, etc! LOL. A few minutes of reflection brought at least five factors that you too, may find helpful.

My Fave Five

  • 1. Lighten Up - Taking life and ourselves so seriously can wear on our face and our health. You've heard the sayings, pick one. "Don't sweat the small stuff", "Too blessed to be stressed", etc.
  • 2. Give More and Spend Less - It is not unusual for us to make an impulse buy or even think we can't live without something we must buy only to regret it or not be interested in it later. Yet when we give from the heart to others it does something special to our insides.
  • 3. Move - Get your cute little (or not so little) buns in gear. Take a walk, an exercise class, hit the ON Demand button of your cable remote and take a stretching, Pilate's, yoga or Funky Moves class for free in the privacy of your living room. When you exercise and sweat, you release endorphins, the "feel good" hormones. Your skin clears up, the ideas flow, some of our problems get resolutions, you name it. Its good for you. Don't forget to drink your water.
  • 4. Forgive - We can find it difficult to forgive someone who hurt us especially if we were victimized, yet the unforgiveness destroys us not them. Talk to a friend, your pastor, family or a counselor. Find a way to move on, maybe not because they deserve it, but because you do!
  • 5. Laugh - at yourself, a silly movie, your kids, your thighs. Remember that laughter is the music of the heart! Do it everyday!
Engage in these five activities and watch your photos and red carpet moments put a new smile of appreciation on that beautiful face.
Smooches and Stilettos!
